Georgia Tech’s state-of-the-art Food Processing
Technology Building is a world-class center for collaborative
food processing technology development, academic research, and
public interaction. Officially opened in May 2005, the building
serves as a cornerstone for:
• Creating innovative new technology designs
for the food industry
• Fostering active industrial and academic
collaboration
• Attracting technology providers interested
in helping solve some of the many challenges facing the food
processing industry
The building serves as headquarters for the Food
Processing Technology Division of the Georgia Tech Research Institute,
the nonprofit applied research arm of Georgia Tech. The division
is a unique research unit focused on new technology developments
for processing efficiency and operational enhancement in the
food processing and poultry industries, and conducts significant
research under two major programs: the Agricultural Technology
Research Program (ATRP) and Georgia’s Traditional Industries
Program for Food Processing, which is managed through the Food
Processing Advisory Council (FoodPAC).
Funding for the building was provided through a
mixture of state, private, and industrial dollars.
Research Facilities
The building’s high bay research area is
a 4,370-square-foot space with a 34-foot ceiling, a 3-ton overhead
crane, a 16-foot x 24-foot climate control chamber, a modeling
shop, and access via both a loading dock and semi-tractor trailer
drive-in door. The building also contains specialized labs to
support environmental analysis studies, optics research, software
development, and electronic fabrication and troubleshooting.

The building’s meeting facilities are designed
to support information exchange and educational activities that
introduce company, professional, government, university, and
school groups to technology opportunities in the food processing
industry. These facilities include:
